Delete your account

How to delete a crosstype app account, and exactly what that removes. You do not need an account to use this website, and there is nothing here to delete.

1 · From inside the app

This is the whole procedure. It takes about fifteen seconds and involves nobody but you.

  1. Open crosstype.
  2. Go to Profile → Settings.
  3. Tap DELETE ACCOUNT.
  4. Type delete to confirm, and confirm.

It happens immediately and it cannot be undone. This is not a deactivation and there is no cooling-off period: the account is gone, not paused. Nothing is held for a while in case you change your mind, because a deletion that keeps your data for a fortnight is not the thing people mean when they ask for one.

2 · What goes

  • your profile, username and claimed type
  • every test run on this account, and the answers stored with it
  • your friends, requests and blocks
  • every message you have posted — in rooms and in direct messages, for everyone, not just for you

The last one is worth reading twice. Your messages are removed for everyone, not only from your own view, so conversations other people were part of will lose your half of them. That is the strongest answer to “delete my data”, and it has a cost that falls on other people. It is the answer we chose anyway.

3 · What stays

  • reports about you, and reports you filed — each keeps the reported message and your username as they stood at the time, with the account itself detached
  • sign-in records held by our authentication provider

A report has to outlive the account it is about. If deleting yourself also erased every complaint about you, deleting yourself would be a way to erase the complaint.

“Detached” is not “anonymous.” A kept report still holds the reported message and the username exactly as they stood when it was filed; what is removed is the link to your account. We would rather say that than let one word do quiet work on a page about erasure.

4 · If you cannot reach the app

If you have already uninstalled it, or lost the device, email support@crosstype.app from the address on the account and ask for it to be deleted. It will be done within seven days, and it is the same deletion described above — the email route is slower, not gentler.

You do not need an account to read this page, and you do not need to sign in to anything. /privacy sets out what is stored in the first place.
