An ESTj is running the operation whether or not anyone put them in charge. The right method, the right tool, the supplier who actually delivers. That's the level they work at with almost anything. Vacations too. Watching a job done badly when there's a better way is close to physically uncomfortable.
An ESTj makes things run measurably better today, caring for quality, reliability, and the comfort of the process. Their weak spot is fog about the far future (vulnerable Ni): long-range guessing and forced waiting wear them down. They quietly value clarity about who can be trusted (suggestive Fi) and collect promising options that others scout (mobilizing Ne).

§2 How it actually goes
Strong or weak is how much capacity the seat has; valued or unvalued is whether an ESTj wants to spend time there.
The care is practical and deliberate. It points outward. An ESTj fixes your shelf, handles the insurance, shows up with the thing you didn't know you needed. To them, that's just what affection is. They won't say much about how they feel. They'll make sure your car passes inspection.
An ESTj can be the host — the welcome, the round of drinks, the deliberate good cheer — and they do a solid job. It's a role. They pick it up for the occasion and put it down gladly after. Asked to keep up warmth for its own sake, with no task attached, they get awkward. They start collecting empties.
An ESTj is bad at reading how things will unfold. They'll ride a bad deal for years, long past the point of sense, because nothing this week says stop. Nobody has made them choose. An unclear future makes them anxious, not curious. They settle it by working harder at the present.
An ESTj needs to be told, in words, that they're loved. Not implied. Not read off a well-run house — said, and said again. Everything they build and fix and pay for leaves the question open. They won't raise it. They'll work harder instead. Told straight, and not as a courtesy, they get something the work has never given them.
Put a new idea in front of an ESTj and they take it up with more enthusiasm than they'd ever have come up with alone. Someone else's proposal — a franchise, an unusual trip, an odd hobby — gets adopted. Then it gets done properly. Left alone, they keep doing what already works, year after year. The restlessness, when it comes, surprises them.
An ESTj gets the theory just fine. They treat it as an indulgence. They know why the procedure was written that way. Their interest stops at whether it holds up on the floor. An argument about definitions gets one sentence back. Then a suggestion that everyone go look at the actual thing.
There's more force in an ESTj than the reasonable manner lets on. They'll step into a stalled job without being asked. They'll tell someone to stop, and hold that position as long as it takes. It never gets shown off as toughness. It comes out as plain impatience with things staying stuck.

What costs
- Holding up the good cheer at a long event, hour after hour, with nothing to hand anybody at the end (Fe).
- Sitting still beside somebody crying, having been told the problem is not for fixing (Fe).
- Saying where a shrinking account lands in three years, while this month still balances (Ni).
- A month of waiting on a decision nobody has made yet, with no work attached to it (Ni).
What they want from other people
- Being asked how they are by somebody who wants the answer, not the status of the work (Fi).
- One concrete alternative they had not thought of, which they will then build past its author (Ne).
- A straight read on who is honest with them, from a person who sees it sooner (Fi).

Compatibility here is coverage, not similarity.
An INFj names who can be trusted and where an ESTj stands with them, which is what duality supplies.
An ENFp brings an ESTj options they would never produce alone, which makes activation good for an evening. Across a long weekend the rhythms never sync, and the ESTj ends it tired.
An ISTp works the same elements in the opposite order, so ESTj and ISTp agree on facts and argue about pace.
An INFp lives on the long arc an ESTj cannot see, so conflict grinds them both down.
An INTp presses constantly on the forecasting an ESTj is worst at, so INTp over ESTj feels like being watched.

Hand an ESTj the running of something: the schedule, the suppliers, the standing costs. The part of the job where a loss has a location and somebody has to go and look at it is theirs. It runs measurably better, and they can name the number that moved. Two things belong on another desk: the long bet, called on nothing that has happened yet, and any job whose only product is mood.

Model A files Se in the background for an ESTj: strong, used freely, never claimed as something they value. A contractor bills for a coat of paint nobody applied; the ESTj strikes that line, pays the rest the same day, and never raises it again. There is no scene, and nothing is proved. Who is the ESTj's dual?
INFj. The picture is plain: an ESTj spends twenty years proving how they feel by servicing the car early and clearing the gutters, and an INFj says the thing out loud, unprompted, and keeps saying it. Going the other way, the ESTj takes the practical weight off somebody who carries it badly. Duality is a claim about coverage, not about how the first evening feels.
Which quadra is ESTj in, and what does that mean?
In socionics, ESTj sits in delta with INFj, ENFp and ISTp. Delta runs on Te, Si, Fi and Ne: work that pays for itself, physical ease, loyalty stated one to one, and options worth taking up. Nobody gets pushed there. For an ESTj that means help given without being asked for, and quality as the whole of the argument.
How do I tell ESTj from ISTj?
Both run a tight operation, so start with what the rule is for. An ISTj keeps the scheme correct and will hold a rule that costs output. An ESTj keeps the output and rewrites the rule on a Tuesday afternoon when it gets in the way.
