ESTj and ISFp: supervision (ESTj supervises ISFp)
ESTj and ISFp are not on level ground: ESTj leads with the element ISFp is weakest at, and presses on it without effort or intent. Supervision has a direction, so ISFp and ESTj live in the same relation differently — one feels watched, the other feels interested. The compatibility is asymmetric.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- On the good pan, the aired room, and the right bread, they agree before anyone discusses it. The ESTj's creative Si and the ISFp's base Si arrive at the same standard from opposite directions.
- At the obligatory office party, the ISFp's creative Fe charms a table the ESTj would merely have managed. The colleagues conclude the ESTj must be warmer at home. They happen to be right.
- The income arrives. The repairs get done. The plans hold. The ISFp lives well on the output of the ESTj's base Te and, unlike most people, actually notices the provision.
- Novelty comes in equal portions here. Ne is mobilizing for the ESTj and suggestive for the ISFp. A new market on Saturday or one day trip a season gets planned by one of them and savored by the other.
- They divide the chores without a chart. Both simply see what a house needs. The only dispute is stylistic: the ESTj does it on schedule, the ISFp when the room asks.
Where it grinds
- What did the day produce, asks the ESTj's base Te. The day produced a calm child, a good soup, and a defused quarrel. None of it enters the ledger. The ISFp's vulnerable slot takes the question as an indictment.
- The ESTj prices the method and finds the farmers market costs thirty percent more. That the method was the point doesn't survive translation into percentages. The ISFp stops explaining. The ESTj records that as conceding.
- That worn armchair the ISFp had broken in to exactly the right degree gets replaced by the ESTj. Creative Si executes comfort as maintenance. Base Si inhabits it as atmosphere. The new chair is objectively better, and also worse.
- The ISFp's mood-tending strikes the ESTj as pleasant but impossible to act on. The ESTj's toneless fine strikes the ISFp as a mood in urgent need of tending. Every intervention produces more of what provoked it.
- Once a quarter, the ESTj presents the household spreadsheet. The ISFp agrees with every line and then changes nothing. Both describe this as a working system. One of them is right.
