Where it clicks
- When they host, guests get managed from both flanks. The ESE runs the room's mood while the LSE runs the kitchen's logistics. Si is their shared creative instrument, so both keep adjusting chairs, drafts, and portions all night.
- Ten years from now is a question neither of them asks the other. Ni is vulnerable on both sides, so the long view stays politely off the table. Both find its absence restful.
- Show them a new appliance, a new route, or a new stand at the farmers market and they'll both try it this weekend — each carries mobilizing Ne. Novelty is the one expense neither of them questions.
- Sick kids, visiting in-laws, a burst pipe at seven in the morning: the practical layer gets handled fast, from two directions at once. Each notes the other's competence with approval.
- Around the neighborhood they divide the work. The ESE smooths over the fence-line feud the LSE would have escalated. The LSE makes the ESE's charity bake sale run on time and under budget. Each considers the other a useful person to have nearby.
Where it grinds
- Te sits in the ESE's role slot, so justifying the budget is a performance with a runtime. The ESE defends the spreadsheet for ten minutes, then spends by feel. The LSE's quarterly audit turns up the feeling-shaped numbers underneath.
- The ESE demands visible enthusiasm, and the demand lands on the LSE's role Fe. The anniversary toast arrives on cue and technically correct. Everyone in the room, the ESE included, can hear it was assembled, not felt.
- A long wait wrecks them both. A delayed diagnosis or a stalled house sale hits two vulnerable Ni slots at once. The household produces two kinds of frantic doing and no steadying voice.
- What the ESE wants to lean on is a clean principle — that's suggestive Ti asking. The LSE ignores Ti and offers precedent instead: whatever worked in 2019. The advice is sound and never satisfying.
- The LSE privately hopes for a verdict on where the two of them stand as people — the thing a suggestive Fi slot listens for. But Fi is the ESE's ignoring function. Warmth goes out to everyone and gets filed for no one, and the LSE gets the same smile as the mail carrier.
