An IEI lives some distance from the present moment, and the distance is the point. They can feel how a situation will end long before they can explain why. The explanation, when it comes, is usually an image, not an argument. They don't like being asked to justify the certainty. It arrived first.

§2 How it actually goes
Strong or weak is how much capacity the seat has; valued or unvalued is whether an IEI wants to spend time there.
An IEI works the mood deliberately and sparingly. They can lift a dull room, hold a grieving one, or turn a group's attention with one well-timed remark — choosing the register the way another person chooses a tool. They watch the temperature for a long time before they touch it.
Put an IEI in charge of a household and it runs well for two weeks — the meal made, the room set right, the fuss taken off somebody's hands. It's done for the person, not for the pleasure of it, and it doesn't survive a long stretch of housekeeping. Their own arrangements slide the moment nobody's watching.
Ask an IEI to show their work and the whole thing comes apart. Told to produce the numbers, the method, and the timeline, they either fill out the form badly or dodge the situation altogether. The exchange leaves them feeling stupid, not just unprepared. They know the thing. They can't itemize it on demand.
An IEI wants somebody to move them. A person who says this is happening Tuesday, and then carries them along, is doing something they can't manage alone — and it lands as relief, not bossiness. Without that push the vision stays a vision, and the year passes pleasantly and without event.
A clear framework energizes an IEI more than they expect. Being shown how the parts of a subject actually fit — the real definition, the rule underneath — turns a vague sense into something usable. They'll build on it for months. They're grateful for the scaffolding and would never have put it up themselves.
Alternatives come to an IEI freely and are rarely wanted. Push for a list and one arrives. But scattering attention across possibilities cuts against the single line they're already following. They'd sooner take that line further than keep several live, and people who insist on several make them impatient.
An IEI reads the state of a bond precisely and mostly declines to discuss it. They know who's cooled toward whom, what a particular silence meant, and how much a friendship can bear. All of it shows as tone, never statement. Pressed on where they stand with you, they answer with a joke.

What comes easily
- Names the month a project will stall while the kickoff slides are still going around (Ni).
- Holds a long arc in view, so a bad week reads as a stage rather than a verdict (Ni).
- Can make a flat group lively or a complacent one uneasy, and decides which before speaking (Fe).
- Sits through somebody's worst hour without trying to fix it, and the hour gets shorter (Fe).
What costs
- Keeps a spare room pleasant for a visitor, then leaves a broken heater unreported for a month (Si).
- Stalls when a meeting wants the figure, the source and the deadline, and has none of the three ready (Te).
- Files an expense report four months late with half the amounts guessed, and resents the form (Te).
What they want from other people
- Relaxes when somebody else is holding the calendar and the decision is already made, and follows without resenting it (Se).
- Hangs on to any clear rule that explains why the pieces sit where they do, long after the explainer is gone (Ti).
- Gets more from one person who supplies both the shove and the explanation than from two who supply one each (Se, Ti).
§4 In relationships
Compatibility here means coverage rather than fondness, who supplies what an IEI cannot supply alone.
SLE is the dual. An IEI supplies the forecast and the mood; SLE supplies the decision and the day it happens (IEI and SLE).
LSI is the activation partner. An evening together lifts both of them; a long weekend leaves both flat. Neither one keeps a pace the other can hold (IEI and LSI).
EIE is the mirror. The same beta material arrives in the opposite order: EIE leads with the performance, an IEI with the forecast (IEI and EIE).
LSE is the conflictor, and it presses both ways. Schedules and visible output land where an IEI has nothing to give, and an IEI's unprovable forecasting does the same to LSE (IEI and LSE).
LIE is the supervisor, and it runs one way. LIE presses on the pragmatic logic an IEI is weakest at, without meaning to, and nothing comes back the other way (IEI and LIE).
§5 At work
Hand an IEI the long question: where is this going, what will the room bear, who is about to quit. The reading comes early and is usually right. Keep procurement, the vendor spreadsheet and the quarterly numbers off their desk. Give an IEI a fixed date and one person with the standing to call it finished, and the work arrives.

Model A files Fi, personal bonds, in an IEI's eighth seat, strong, constant, unclaimed. An IEI carries an accurate map of who has gone quiet on whom and offers none of it. Model G, Gulenko's energy model, reads that same seat as a social mission, the thing others come to them for. In a family that is the person bad news gets routed through, since they know who can hear it and in what order. Both readings describe one behavior and disagree about which is the point. Is IEI the same as INFJ?
No — IEI is the closest socionics reading of INFJ, not the same label; the site writes ≈INFJ* to say so. MBTI asks which of two descriptions a person prefers. In socionics, IEI names a stack of eight seats, half of them weak, and the reading turns on which weak seats a person wants covered. INFJ answers start weighted evenly between IEI and EII, with EIE third. INFJ in socionics sets out the split.
Who is the IEI's dual?
SLE. The dual's strong seats sit where an IEI's are thin, and the reverse. An IEI sees where a thing is heading and still cannot start it; SLE starts things and rarely looks past Friday. What that buys is relief from the work each one does badly, not affection. IEI and SLE has the detail.
Which quadra is IEI in, and what does that mean?
IEI sits in beta, with EIE, LSI and SLE. Beta runs on Ni, Fe, Se and Ti — where things are heading, what a room is feeling, force applied on purpose, and a rule that holds. A beta room is a crew with a cause, real rank and loud feeling. An IEI keeps the long view of it.
How do I tell IEI from EII?
EII is the usual confusion. Both read as quiet INFJ or INFP answers. The tell is what happens when somebody behaves badly. An EII says where they stand and holds that line at a cost. An IEI sees it as clearly, turns the question aside, and says nothing. EIE, the third INFJ candidate, is the loud one.
