IEI and LSE: conflict
IEI and LSE press on each other's sorest seat without meaning to. Conflict is the hardest of the sixteen: what LSE and IEI each do most naturally is what the other can least afford to hear. The compatibility does not improve with closeness — this is the one relation that gets worse.
Hardest. Don't force it. Your lead function presses squarely on their sorest spot, and theirs on yours. Intriguing from a distance. Up close, it wears you both down.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The LSE's machinery of daily life just works: the car serviced, the taxes in early, the fridge full. The IEI, drifting through timelines, rides that Te infrastructure like a passenger — and knows it.
- The IEI names the mood in the room before the LSE has noticed there is one. At the staff dinner, that creative Fe warning about the sulking deputy saves the LSE a resignation letter.
- Reading the long arc is what the IEI's Ni does: this boom will thin out, that quiet colleague will matter. The LSE can't see around corners and knows it. A one-line forecast, delivered rarely, gets acted on.
- When the IEI is the one who's sick, the LSE's care is concrete and immediate: medicine bought, humidifier running, actual food. The IEI's own upkeep is thin role work. For a bounded stretch, all that competence feels like shelter.
- At a properly fenced distance the trade is fair: the LSE runs the present, the IEI supplies its meaning. Twice a year, at weddings and funerals, each turns out to be just what the other was missing.
Where it grinds
- The LSE opens the morning with throughput questions: what's the plan, what will it cost, when will it be done. The IEI's vulnerable Te has no numbers to offer, so it produces poetry instead. The poetry gets billed as evasion.
- Forced waiting is the LSE's private torment, and the IEI traffics in it: not yet, it isn't time, let it ripen. Every deferral lands on vulnerable Ni like a bill with no date printed on it.
- Meals at seven, walks after lunch, early nights: the LSE administers daily maintenance on a schedule. The IEI performs compliance in short, strained stretches, then reverts by midnight. The LSE reads each relapse as ingratitude.
- The IEI plays the house's emotional register like a dimmer switch and expects the LSE to modulate along. Feeling on cue is effortful role work for the LSE. The daily requirement starts to read like an unpaid second job.
- Around a deadline, the fracture is plain. The LSE finishes early and waits, visibly. The IEI finishes in the final hour, having waited for the image to complete. Neither reads the other's timing as a schedule. Both read it as a defect of character.
