SEI and ESE: mirror
SEI and ESE run the same two functions in the opposite order. Mirror relations mean shared subject matter and reversed seriousness: ESE and SEI keep editing each other's emphasis, and the work usually improves. The compatibility is collegial — high on understanding, low on rest.
Same work, opposite order. Your base and creative functions are swapped. Same interests, reversed seriousness — each of you treats as craft what the other treats as calling.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- Nobody ever had to assign the hosting duties. The ESE works the room from base Fe while the SEI, from base Si, keeps the food hot and the chairs right. Guests can't tell where one job ends, so they credit the whole evening to the house itself.
- Both of them are competent around illness. The SEI notices the symptom a day before anyone says it out loud. The ESE lines up the doctor, the soup rotation, and the visitors. The patient's only job is to recover.
- The SEI quietly audits the ESE's guest lists, using demonstrative Fi to track who actually likes whom, and strikes one name without comment. The ESE, whose own Fi gets ignored on principle, accepts the edit. The party goes better for it.
- They fill the calendar with the same things: meals, birthdays, the standing Sunday guests. Neither has to sell the other on any of it. Neither ever proposes an event the other would find pointless.
- When a contractor stalls or a refund gets refused, the ESE's demonstrative Se appears out of nowhere and settles it. The SEI, who keeps force strictly in the background, watches with mild admiration and has the tea ready afterward.
Where it grinds
- The ESE's efficiency speeches land badly. Running role Te, they make announcements about doing things properly and on budget. To the SEI's vulnerable Te, it all sounds like an audit of a system that worked fine before anyone brought numbers into it.
- The SEI's forebodings are a particular torment. A mild role-Ni remark — this arrangement won't last — just hangs in the air. The ESE's vulnerable Ni can't metabolize that kind of open-ended waiting. The ESE demands a date. The SEI doesn't have one.
- Their conversation keeps circling the same warm territory. Both are privately waiting for somebody else to bring the interesting idea, since each takes in Ne and Ti rather than producing them. Neither ever opens a question the other can't already answer.
- One turns the volume up, the other turns it down. The ESE escalates every gathering as a duty of base Fe. The SEI dampens things back toward comfort. Privately the ESE finds the SEI passive, and the SEI finds the cheer effortful, a little coercive. They're both right.
- Redecorating brings the split into the open. The ESE wants the living room arranged for the guests it has to impress. The SEI wants the chair that actually sits well. Whose comfort governs — the group's mood or the body in the room — gets renegotiated with every purchase.
