SEI and ESI: quasi-identity
SEI and ESI share topics and cannot share methods. Quasi-identity keeps the vocabulary familiar and the meanings shifted, so work handed between ESI and SEI has to be redone rather than continued. The compatibility is conversational; it does not survive a deadline.
Looks like you. Isn't. Same topics, methods that don't mix. Everything about them is familiar, and none of it is usable.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- They've never needed a committee to run the house. Between the SEI's base Si and the ESI's demonstrative Si, the home simply works. Groceries appear, sheets get changed, and nobody has ever assigned a task out loud.
- Each of them remembers that the aunt drinks her coffee black and the neighbor's boy can't eat walnuts. Guests get looked after by two separate memories for particulars. Between them, very little slips through.
- Neither trusts grand talk. Explain a retirement plan through the story of one retired cousin and you'll persuade them both. Show them a chart and you'll persuade neither. Salesmen leave this house empty-handed.
- Whoever's ill gets two kinds of care at once. The SEI adjusts the room, the food, and the noise level. The ESI's creative Se guards the door and cancels visitors without apologizing. The patient wants for nothing.
- A quiet evening suits them both. Two introverts with the same small rituals can share a kitchen for three hours, and the silence reads as domestic, not strained.
Where it grinds
- The guest list splits the house every time. The SEI invites anyone pleasant, since Fe warmth is a craft to them. The ESI's base Fi has already ruled three of those people unwelcome, and said so on the record. The same argument comes back every holiday.
- The ESI names the offense right at the table, after the SEI spent the whole dinner steering around it. To the ESI, that smoothing is cowardice. To the SEI, the confrontation is vandalism of an evening they built.
- At some point the ESI asks what the renovation will actually cost and save — a request for Te facts nobody present owns. It lands on the SEI's vulnerable Te and produces hurt feelings instead of a number.
- The SEI offers cheerful what-if talk as entertainment, and the ESI's vulnerable Ne hears unseriousness about the family's future. Meanwhile the SEI is starved for exactly that kind of playful Ne and never gets it at home.
- When the ESI applies open pressure, the SEI goes soft and disappears into errands — their ignoring Se simply won't take the field. The ESI ends up holding the boundary alone, and makes a note of it.
