SLE and IEE: super-ego
SLE and IEE each do easily what the other performs under pressure. Super-ego relations look complementary from across a room and feel like being graded up close, which is why IEE and SLE usually stay polite and stay apart. The compatibility improves with distance, which is rarely the direction people want.
Respect, at a distance. Your strengths land on the slots the other works hardest to perform, and theirs land on yours. Admiration from across the room that curdles up close.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- For the IEE, boldness comes in short takes — role Se: the confrontation gets rehearsed in the car and delivered breathless. The SLE's unrehearsed version, watched from a safe distance, is enviable.
- The SLE keeps a working stock of fresh angles for when a plan stalls — role Ne doing its job. An IEE who produces eight unprompted angles before lunch registers as a natural resource worth keeping close.
- When they storm a bureaucracy together, nobody has to hand out roles: the IEE turns up the side entrance and the sympathetic clerk, and the SLE walks through both. The permit shows up by Friday.
- The manual goes unread on both sides. Rented boat, strange city, broken grill — both would sooner start and correct than plan and wait. The pace, at least, is never contested.
- The IEE's map of who likes whom, offered casually — 'don't seat those two together' — spares the SLE social collisions they'd never have seen coming. Because it arrives as gossip, accepting it costs the SLE nothing.
Where it grinds
- The SLE clarifies stakes with tight little schemes: three options, pick one, here's why. To the IEE's vulnerable Ti, the grid feels like being measured for a cage. They agree to option two, then reopen it by text at midnight.
- The IEE tends bonds out loud: he felt dismissed, she needs an apology. The SLE can't see the layer being described at all, so they hear fog reported as fact and suspect manipulation where none exists.
- Sharing an office makes it daily: the SLE's standing push — claim it, call now, don't ask — lands on the IEE's short-run role Se every morning. Within a month the IEE is taking the long way around the SLE's desk.
- New possibilities never stop arriving from the IEE, and none of them come ranked. The SLE can stay open for about twenty minutes. After that the stream turns to static, and they end it by deciding something, anything.
- Under one roof, their rules of engagement don't line up. The SLE respects a direct fight and forgets it by dinner. The IEE treats the raised voice itself as the injury. One apologizes, if at all, for being wrong. The other wanted an apology for the tone.
