ILI (INTp) — the intuitive-logical introvert

INTp · ≈INTJ* · γ gamma
ILI · INTp · ≈INTJ* · the Critic
easy with SEE · hardest with ESE
notation:

An ILI tracks where things are actually heading and what has actually worked, and fashion doesn't move them. Their weak spot is enthusiasm on demand (vulnerable Fe): collective excitement feels like a performance they can't join. They feel relief when a decisive person turns their foresight into action (suggestive Se), and they warm slowly to steady personal loyalty (mobilizing Fi).

§2 How it actually goes

Strong or weak is how much capacity the seat has; valued or unvalued is whether an ILI wants to spend time there.

Ni
base · 1
strong · valued

An ILI watches how things unfold and gets the shape of it early. They know which project is doomed months before anyone else will admit it. They can usually say what happens next, and it turns out to be exact. What they can't reliably find is any enthusiasm for the steps in between.

Te
creative · 2
strong · valued

The analysis is the instrument, and it comes out on request. An ILI will take a plan apart, price it, and name the assumption doing all the load-bearing work. Then they hand back a clear-eyed account of what it actually costs. They do this for other people far more readily than for themselves, and they rarely charge enough.

Si
role · 3
weak · unvalued

Comfort, for an ILI, is a routine kept up in short deliberate stretches — the good coffee, the cleared desk, an actual meal at an actual hour. It's upkeep, not pleasure, and it lapses quietly whenever something more interesting turns up. They mostly notice their surroundings once those have become a problem.

Fe
vulnerable · 4
weak · unvalued

Being asked to perform enthusiasm is where an ILI comes undone. The forced cheer of a team event, the expected visible delight at somebody's news — these are hard, and the attempt reads as flat or sarcastic no matter what was meant. They aren't cold. They're being asked to speak a language they never learned.

Se
suggestive · 5
weak · valued

An ILI needs somebody to make things happen. The push isn't something they can supply themselves. One decisive person close by turns years of accurate watching into things that actually took place, and the interference is welcome. Left entirely alone, an ILI can watch a decade go by and be right about all of it.

Fi
mobilizing · 6
weak · valued

Personal loyalty energizes an ILI more than they let on. A few people who are unambiguously theirs will pull them out of the study and into the world, and they'll do a lot for that small circle. They're bad at assembling one, so they keep whoever assembled it for life.

Ne
ignoring · 7
strong · unvalued

An ILI generates alternatives easily and discounts most of them on sight. Asked to brainstorm, they produce the list plus the reason each item fails, which isn't what the room was hoping for. They're not being negative for sport. They've already run the branches forward and found where each one stops.

Ti
demonstrative · 8
strong · unvalued

An ILI carries a lot of structure and rarely bothers to lay any of it out. They spot the contradiction in an argument immediately and say so in half a sentence, leaving the reconstruction to you. Assembling a tidy system of their own doesn't tempt them at all. Finding the crack in somebody else's is what they actually enjoy.

§3 Strengths and weaknesses

What comes easily

  • Looks at a schedule and picks the milestone that slips first, down to the week (Ni).
  • Reads a contractor's quote line by line and names the number the whole price rests on (Te).
  • Sits through the pitch for a new office layout; the identical one ran in 2011 and was quietly dropped (Ni).
  • Prices a plan honestly, including the line the room would rather not see added up (Te).

What costs

  • Noticing the shower has been broken for a week; somebody else usually calls the plumber first (Si).
  • Registering hunger or cold as hunger or cold, instead of as a bad mood (Si).
  • Recording a birthday video for the group chat; the third take is no warmer than the first (Fe).
  • Knowing whether an apology landed; the answer arrives weeks later, secondhand (Fe).

What they want from other people

  • Somebody who hears the forecast, decides on the spot, and carries what follows (Se).
  • Outside pressure with a date on it: a deposit paid, a slot booked by somebody else (Se).
  • A couple of people who say plainly where they stand, and keep saying it (Fi).

§4 In relationships

Socionics treats compatibility as coverage rather than similarity: who supplies what an ILI cannot, and who leans on the seat that hurts.

An ILI's dual is SEE, who supplies the push and the plain warmth an ILI cannot generate alone.

ESI leads with the steady loyalty an ILI is slowly growing. The relation is bright on contact and tiring by day three.

The mirror, LIE, covers the same ground in reverse order: LIE moves first and asks the timing question second.

The conflictor is ESE, whose running commentary of shared mood presses the one seat an ILI has no answer for.

EIE supervises an ILI, leading with expressed emotion and pressing the Fe seat constantly, without ever meaning to.

§5 At work

Hand an ILI the question nobody wants answered: what the thing will really cost, which assumption carries the plan, where the program sits in three years. They pay for themselves under a manager who decides fast, because a forecast filed in a shared drive changes nothing. Keep the morale work off the desk: the offsite, the visiting client, the culture committee, the launch party somebody has to host. Give them one reader and a deadline, and the analysis lands early and priced.

§6 Model A and Model G readings

Model A files structural logic in an ILI's eighth seat: Ti is strong, unvalued, and mostly runs unannounced. In practice: a policy draft circulates, and an ILI marks the line on page nine that makes page two impossible. They say nothing further about it. Gulenko's Model G collects that seat with the base and calls the pair a social mission, the output a room watches an ILI produce. Read that way, the unadvertised checking is the public job rather than a private habit. This site scores every result under both models and shows the distance between them, which is worth reading here: an office often uses an ILI as its checker without ever saying so.

§9 Questions people ask

Is ILI the same as INTJ?

ILI is the closest socionics type to INTJ, not the same thing, which is why the site writes it ≈INTJ* and not a translation. The letters record stated preferences. Socionics sorts by which of eight information elements a person runs strong, which they refuse, and which they need supplied by somebody else. In socionics, ILI and LII are the two places most people who test INTJ land, ILI ahead by a small margin, with LSI a distant third.

Who is the ILI's dual?

SEE. Duality is a claim about coverage, not romance: an ILI is short on force and on saying where they stand, and an SEE leads with both. The everyday picture is a decision an ILI has weighed for a year and an SEE settles over lunch, plus a warning about next spring that an SEE acts on.

Which quadra is ILI in, and what does that mean?

In socionics, ILI sits in the gamma quadra with SEE, LIE and ESI. The four elements the room runs on are Ni, Te, Se and Fi: where things are heading, what actually works, force applied on time, and loyalty to particular people. In practice that means blunt feedback, a few proven allies and a long horizon. The ILI socionics type is the quadra's watcher rather than its mover.

How do I tell ILI from LII?

ILI and LII are the pair people mix up: both are quiet, both are analytical, and both sit in the INTJ and INTP candidate sets. The tell is what each one does with a contradiction. An LII builds the system that removes it and will show the structure on request. An ILI names the crack, then leaves the rebuilding to whoever raised it. LSI, the third candidate under INTJ, enforces a rule instead of examining one.

How do I find out if I'm ILI?

Take the free test: eighty-six questions, thirty-five to forty-five minutes. It scores under Model A and Model G and prints the margin, so a narrow win over LII reads as narrow. Anyone whose ILI result comes in with a thin gap over the runner-up should read that type's page too.
