INTp and ESFj: conflict
INTp and ESFj press on each other's sorest seat without meaning to. Conflict is the hardest of the sixteen: what ESFj and INTp each do most naturally is what the other can least afford to hear. The compatibility does not improve with closeness — this is the one relation that gets worse.
Hardest. Don't force it. Your lead function presses squarely on their sorest spot, and theirs on yours. Intriguing from a distance. Up close, it wears you both down.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- One flat sentence from the INTp about where the housing market is really going stops the ESFj mid-hosting. Heard about once a month, that Ni verdict is bracing — an open window in a warm room.
- The ESFj throws the birthday party the INTp would never ask for: the right people, the right food, over by ten. Once a year, not once a week, it delivers the social calories the INTp won't admit to needing.
- When the renovation needs pricing, the INTp's creative Te does it honestly: what it costs, what it returns. The ESFj's own efficiency talk is effortful role work, so they borrow the analysis wholesale and repeat it to the contractor.
- Put them in the same office with a fence between their functions and it holds. The ESFj runs the room, the INTp runs the projections, and neither audits the other. Clients get warmth and accuracy in one meeting, from two different chairs.
- The moment the INTp falls ill, the ESFj's Si care arrives in concrete form: broth, blankets, the appointment already made. The INTp maintains their own body as a chore. They submit with something close to relief, provided it all ends soon.
Where it grinds
- An enthusiastic ESFj expects the face across the table to light up too. The INTp's vulnerable Fe can't produce that on cue. The party photos show one person beaming and one enduring, and the ESFj takes the endurance personally.
- Asked when the situation will resolve, the INTp answers honestly: not for two years. To the ESFj's vulnerable Ni that open stretch of time is unbearable. They cope by planning something, anything, for this weekend.
- Eventually the INTp turns the Te audit on the household: this gadget was a bad buy, that subscription is waste. The ESFj hears their own generosity being graded for efficiency. Every item gets defended as a gift to someone.
- Whether anyone asked or not, the ESFj administers comfort: second helpings, warmer socks, sit here instead. The INTp takes that sustained Si attention as management of a body they'd have preferred unmanaged. They start eating before visits.
- Sunday afternoons pull them apart. The ESFj fills silence because filling it feels like a duty of care. The INTp spends the afternoon watching a long trend come true. Every interruption costs the INTp a thread of thought. Every unanswered remark costs the ESFj more than that.
