ILE (ENTp) — the intuitive-logical extravert

ENTp · ≈ENTP* · α alpha
ILE · ENTp · ≈ENTP* · the Searcher
easy with SEI · hardest with ESI
notation:

An ILE runs on possibilities. They see what anything could become, quickly grasp the principle behind it, and produce more ideas than they can ever use. Their blind spot is the quiet side of relationships (vulnerable Fi): closeness has to be said in words to register. They're grateful when someone looks after their comfort and daily needs (suggestive Si), and lively company sweeps them along happily (mobilizing Fe).

§2 How it actually goes

Strong or weak is how much capacity the seat has; valued or unvalued is whether an ILE wants to spend time there.

Ne
base · 1
strong · valued

An ILE's attention runs ahead of whatever's in the room, whether or not anyone asked. Hand them a finished plan and you get back four versions of it — two better than the original, none of them finished. The pleasure is in the branching, and they won't apologize for it.

Ti
creative · 2
strong · valued

Ask an ILE what a word actually means and the conversation stops until it's pinned down. Not to be difficult — the whole argument moves once it is. They build the framework as they go and drop it cheerfully the moment a better one shows up.

Se
role · 3
weak · unvalued

In short bursts, an ILE can be forceful. They'll push a project through a meeting, hold a line, raise their voice when it matters. It costs them, and they're usually somewhere else by the time the follow-through comes due. Sustained pressure, given or taken, wears them down faster than they expect.

Fi
vulnerable · 4
weak · unvalued

Where an ILE reliably comes unstuck is the unspoken state of a relationship. They assume everything's fine unless told otherwise, so a friend's quiet pulling-away registers weeks late, if at all. Ask them point-blank how close they feel to someone and they'll describe that person's most interesting qualities and consider the question answered.

Si
suggestive · 5
weak · valued

Comfort is the thing an ILE gratefully accepts and never produces. They'll work through lunch, sit in a bad chair for six hours, and only notice the day went wrong when someone puts food in front of them and it turns out to have been hunger. Being looked after physically lands as unreasonable relief.

Fe
mobilizing · 6
weak · valued

A lively room lifts an ILE out of all proportion. They can't start the mood themselves — their jokes aim at the idea, not the company — but they'll ride someone else's warmth for hours and leave happier than they arrived. Encouragement works on them, which they find slightly embarrassing to admit.

Ni
ignoring · 7
strong · unvalued

An ILE can see where something's heading just fine. They just won't let it settle anything. Ask about the long-run consequences and you get an accurate read, offered as one option among several. Committing to a single line through time feels like closing fifteen doors to walk through one.

Te
demonstrative · 8
strong · unvalued

An ILE is far better with facts, costs, and procedures than they let on. They'll price out a plan in ten minutes, note that it's unworkable, and keep talking about the interesting version anyway. The efficiency is real. It just isn't what they think the conversation is for.

§3 Strengths and weaknesses

What comes easily

  • Walks into a stalled project and names three routes out of it before sitting down (Ne).
  • Reads a job ad and sketches the two adjacent jobs nobody has posted yet (Ne).
  • Pulls a tangle of overlapping categories apart until only the real distinction is left (Ti).
  • Spots the two clauses in a new policy that contradict each other, on one read (Ti).

What costs

  • Can hold a hard line for one meeting; the second and third calls never get made (Se).
  • Wilts at the fourth request to chase the same supplier, so the message goes unsent (Se).
  • Repeats a confidence at the next table because it illustrated the point too well (Fi).
  • Vouches for a colleague the rest of the office wrote off in March, and hears what they did in September (Fi).

What they want from other people

  • Wants a household run by somebody else: the heat, the groceries, the hour the laptop closes (Si).
  • Wants the mood in the room set by somebody else, and will supply the jokes once it is (Fe).
  • Wants one line of praise from someone whose judgment they respect, said out loud (Fe).

§4 In relationships

Socionics reads compatibility as coverage rather than similarity.

An ILE's dual is SEI, who keeps the day livable and takes the stream of half-built ideas as company.

Activation with ESE is warmth on tap for an evening; a whole weekend of it leaves an ILE flat.

LII is the mirror: the same subjects, with the seriousness swapped, so agreement comes fast and priority never does.

The conflictor is ESI, whose reading of loyalty meets an ILE's careless talk about people, and neither side means the damage.

Supervision runs from EII to an ILE. EII reads the unspoken state of a bond, which an ILE reads last, so the pressure never stops and never announces itself. The same relation runs the other way with an ILE over LSI.

§5 At work

Hand an ILE the problem nobody has framed yet: the product that has no category, the process that grew five exceptions and lost its shape. They are worth most in the first two weeks of anything. Keep off their desk the standing negotiation, the vendor who has to be chased every Friday, and the team argument that is really about a grudge. An ILE keeps producing as long as somebody downstream is happy to finish what they opened.

§6 Model A and Model G readings

Model A files Te in an ILE's eighth seat: strong, fluent, and never taken seriously by its owner. Gulenko's Model G reads the same seat as the social mission, the part of an ILE that other people actually receive. Both readings agree the ability is real; they disagree about whether it is the point. In a scene it looks like this. The whiteboard fills with possibilities for an hour, and the line the team writes down afterward is the ILE's throwaway estimate of what the migration will take. This site scores every result under both models and shows where they part company; Model G explains the second reading.

§9 Questions people ask

Is ILE the same as ENTP?

ILE is the closest socionics reading of ENTP, which is why the site writes ≈ENTP* and never an equals sign. The systems ask different questions. MBTI sorts four preferences; socionics asks which of the eight elements an ILE is strong at but bored by, and which one they need handed to them. Most ENTPs land on ILE, some on IEE or LIE. ENTP in socionics has the whole candidate set.

Who is the ILE's dual?

SEI is the ILE's dual. The picture is domestic: SEI keeps the room warm and the evening unhurried, then asks what the new idea was for the pleasure of hearing it. Each one leads with what the other cannot produce alone, comfort for an ILE and possibilities for SEI. That is coverage, not romance. ILE and SEI has the detail.

Which quadra is ILE in, and what does that mean?

In socionics, ILE sits in the alpha quadra alongside SEI, ESE and LII. Alpha values Ne, Ti, Si and Fe: new possibilities, definitions worth arguing about, physical comfort, and a warm room. What it does not value is force or private loyalty tests, which is why an ILE reads as harmless and sometimes as unserious. The four quadras explains the grouping.

How do I tell ILE from IEE?

ILE and IEE both lead with Ne, so both turn up with four ideas nobody asked for. The tell is the second move. An ILE reaches for the definition and starts drawing boxes; an IEE reaches for the person and reads how the idea landed. LIE is the other regular mix-up, restless in the same way but organized around what a plan earns.

How do I find out if I'm ILE?

To find out whether you are an ILE, take the free test: 86 questions. Every answer is scored under Model A and Model G, and the result card shows the engine's top three calls as bars, with the probability on the leading one and the gap to the next. If ILE and IEE are close, it says so. Start at the test.
