ENTp and ESFp: super-ego
ENTp and ESFp each do easily what the other performs under pressure. Super-ego relations look complementary from across a room and feel like being graded up close, which is why ESFp and ENTp usually stay polite and stay apart. The compatibility improves with distance, which is rarely the direction people want.

Where it clicks
- The ESFp walks into a dealership and gets the price moved without ever raising their voice. The ENTp, whose Se is a costume that only fits for short stretches, watches it the way you'd watch a native speaker.
- The ENTp's tenth idea before breakfast is real, not staged. The ESFp can perform openness to novelty in short role-Ne bursts. They privately respect someone whose faucet never shuts off.
- On a shared project the division of labor happens by itself: the ENTp finds the loophole, and the ESFp works the person who guards it. Neither wants the other's half, so nobody fights over territory.
- Both like speed, and neither has patience for brooding. A trip planned in twenty minutes and booked before doubt can show up suits the ENTp's Ne and the ESFp's Se equally. The one condition: nobody audits the reasoning afterward.
- Give the ESFp the ENTp's prototype and they'll sell it to people the ENTp would have alienated within a paragraph. In return, the ENTp can tell the ESFp which of three ventures collapses on inspection. Handled by email, the trade runs indefinitely.
Where it grinds
- The ENTp clarifies things by defining terms. When they redo the ESFp's plan as a tidy scheme with numbered cases, the ESFp — whose Ti is the sore spot — hears an exam they never enrolled in.
- The ESFp manages relationships deliberately, keeping track of who owes whom and who's cooled off. Aimed at the ENTp — 'you hurt her, fix it' — that skill lands on the ENTp's vulnerable Fi as an accusation with no procedure attached.
- At dinner the ENTp floats theories for sport, and the ESFp keeps checking what any of it is for. It's alpha play and gamma consequence at one table, each ordering a different evening.
- Once the range closes, the ESFp's decisiveness — move the couch now, decide now — stops looking admirable and starts feeling like pressure. The ENTp complies in short role-Se spurts, then vanishes into a project for two days.
- The ENTp's what-if monologue in the car can run forty minutes without reaching a destination. The ESFp, who treats a possibility as something you act on this week, goes quiet in a way the ENTp mistakes for interest.
