ESI and EIE: mirage
ESI and EIE rest well together and work badly together. Mirage tops up what each of them wants to be better at while their lead functions talk past each other, which is why EIE and ESI agree about a vacation and stall on a plan. Read the compatibility as domestic, not joint-venture.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The defective sofa goes back to the store because the ESI physically takes it back. Creative Se landing on the EIE's mobilizing slot works like borrowed nerve. With the ESI standing behind them, the EIE actually makes the hard call.
- The EIE's side of the trade is trajectory — where this job is heading, when to leave the sinking committee. That's creative Ni aimed at the ESI's mobilizing slot, and the ESI's timing gets better for hearing it.
- When the EIE runs their body into the ground for a cause, the ESI's demonstrative Si is already on the scene — soup, blackout curtains, a schedule. The EIE's vulnerable Si gets covered before anybody has to ask.
- Both of them value Se and Ni, so resolve is their common currency. Neither hides behind maybe. A decision once made stays made, and each privately rates the other as one of the few serious people in a world of flakes.
- Because they're both ethical types, the household's social machinery runs on double redundancy. Apologies, thank-yous, reading a guest's face — none of it needs explaining in either direction, and both have learned not to take that for granted.
Where it grinds
- The EIE stages the crescendo and brings the room to tears. The ESI answers with a level look and a question about what, specifically, is wrong. Fe sits in the ESI's ignoring slot, and it isn't coming out for the show.
- The ESI's base Fi verdicts get overridden in turn. This one's decent, that one's never welcome again — and the EIE, playing to the audience, keeps inviting the exact person the ESI already struck off. The ESI records every override.
- Money makes it obvious that neither leads Te. The EIE spends for effect. The ESI wants economy but can't build the case in numbers. The same budget argument comes around quarterly with no new evidence.
- For rhetorical color, the EIE floats hypotheticals — what if we sold everything and moved. Ne is demonstrative for the EIE and vulnerable for the ESI. The ESI takes the idea literally, marks the EIE down as unserious, and discounts the next three speeches accordingly.
- The roster is where their joint projects snag. The EIE recruits a whole coalition for the mission. The ESI audits it and finds two people who don't belong at the table. The project can keep the allies or keep the peace — not both.
