ESI and ILE: conflict
ESI and ILE press on each other's sorest seat without meaning to. Conflict is the hardest of the sixteen: what ILE and ESI each do most naturally is what the other can least afford to hear. The compatibility does not improve with closeness — this is the one relation that gets worse.
Hardest. Don't force it. Your lead function presses squarely on their sorest spot, and theirs on yours. Intriguing from a distance. Up close, it wears you both down.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- At dinner, the ILE reframes a friend's ruined career as three openings nobody has tried yet. The ESI had already written the man off as finished, and the demonstration loosens something. At that dose, Ne works as a tonic, not a threat.
- The ESI settles the landlord dispute in one phone call, voice level and terms exact. The ILE's own Se is a strained performance at best. They watch how it's done and quietly take notes.
- As colleagues with separate duties they do well: the ILE builds the prototypes, the ESI vets the people. One Fi verdict on a charming vendor has saved the ILE money more than once. The ILE has learned to take the verdict without asking for the reasoning.
- By instinct, the ESI already held the boundary. What the ILE's Ti adds is the clean wording. Handed the tidy principle, the ESI deploys it on a manipulative relative with visible satisfaction.
- When money disputes come up, each lands on the right desk. The ILE finds the loophole in the contract. The ESI delivers the refusal to the salesman, face to face. Each admires the half of the job they'd hate to do themselves.
Where it grinds
- Over dinner the ILE floats selling the house and consulting from Lisbon. To the ESI's vulnerable Ne this isn't conversation. It's unseriousness about promises already made, and the warmth in the room drops a few degrees before dessert.
- There's a ledger, and the ESI keeps it: you were curt to my sister in March. The ILE, blind at Fi, can't retrieve the event or the offense. The blankness is honest, and it reads to the ESI as denial.
- The chore schedule gets enforced through the ESI's creative Se, directly and in person. The ILE meets that pressure with brittle counter-pressure they can't sustain, then disappears into a project for two days. Each is sure the other one started it.
- A stated position means something different to each of them. The ILE offers opinions as scaffolding and fully expects to revise them. The ESI records each one as a commitment. What the ILE calls updating, the ESI calls going back on your word, and the file grows.
- Halfway through a trip, a better route appears and the ILE takes it. The trouble: the ESI had already told the aunt they'd arrive Tuesday. The objection comes in moral terms the ILE can't parse, so they argue logistics, which is exactly not the point.
