ESI and IEI run one way: ESI leads with what IEI is trying to grow, so the admiration flows in one direction. Benefit makes IEI and ESI a clean teacher-and-student pair and an awkward pair of equals. The compatibility is real for one of them and thin for the other.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The IEI receives the ESI's creative push with relief — that's suggestive Se getting fed. The IEI drifts on a decision for a season; the ESI makes the call and cancels the option. Somebody shut a door at last, and the IEI is grateful.
- Long sight is the IEI's stock in trade, and the ESI's mobilizing Ni eats it up. Where this friendship is heading, whether the sister's marriage lasts — the ESI asks, the IEI reads the arc, and the ESI plans loyalty accordingly.
- Nobody here pretends the world is soft. The IEI's beta and the ESI's gamma value the same two elements, Se and Ni. In this house a hard verdict about a mutual friend can be said out loud and then simply held.
- The ESI's base Fi reaches the IEI's demonstrative slot without translation, so the exact ledger of bonds stays legible to both. Who's owed an apology never becomes a debate. Only the timing does.
- Illness brings out how well they fit. The ESI stands guard, handles the doctor, enforces the regimen. The IEI keeps the sick one's spirits in the right register. Both would call that week, oddly, a good one.
Where it grinds
- The IEI's creative Fe arrives at the ESI's ignoring slot and stops there. The softened lighting before hard news, the mood staged for an apology — the ESI walks straight past it to the news itself. The stagecraft goes unused, and the IEI feels unused with it.
- The IEI's vulnerable Te meets an ESI whose own Te is suggestive: hungry, not supplying. Receipts, deadlines, the letter from the tax office — each hopes the other is the adult here. Neither one is.
- The IEI wants feeling shared into the room, beta fashion. The ESI keeps it as a private account. That's Fe against Fi values in miniature. The IEI performs sorrow to draw the ESI out — and receives a boundary instead.
- To the ESI's vulnerable Ne, the IEI's drifting hypotheticals — maybe Berlin, maybe graduate school, maybe neither — read as unseriousness edging toward betrayal. The ESI wants the one plan. The IEI has four moods.
- The ESI's certainty earns the admiration, but respect doesn't travel back. The ESI files the IEI under people to protect, not people to consult. The IEI, consulted nowhere, notices.
