LIE and SEI: conflict
LIE and SEI press on each other's sorest seat without meaning to. Conflict is the hardest of the sixteen: what SEI and LIE each do most naturally is what the other can least afford to hear. The compatibility does not improve with closeness — this is the one relation that gets worse.
Hardest. Don't force it. Your lead function presses squarely on their sorest spot, and theirs on yours. Intriguing from a distance. Up close, it wears you both down.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- Three days into a launch, the LIE has forgotten food exists. The SEI puts soup on the table and doesn't mention it. For the first week or two, this looks like the answer to everything.
- From a distance, the SEI finds the LIE's Te impressive. The numbers really do line up, and the venture really does pay. So the SEI applauds from across the room, where applauding is safe.
- At the LIE's client dinner, the SEI handles the warmth: names remembered, glasses filled, the awkward investor thawed. The LIE performs sociability with effort. The SEI produces it as a craft. The evening ends well.
- The LIE forecasts where the neighborhood, the industry, and the lease are all heading. The SEI gets a horizon they'd never have drawn themselves. In small quantities, it's steadying, not heavy.
- In the office, with duties fenced off, it works: the LIE sets the targets, the SEI keeps the floor humane and the coffee decent. Privately, each is sure the other's job can't be done.
Where it grinds
- The LIE opens with metrics: what did the day accomplish, in numbers. The question lands on the SEI's vulnerable Te as an accusation. The answer comes out smaller and more defensive every time it's asked.
- The SEI adjusts the LIE's diet, sleep, and posture, gently and constantly. Each kindness lands on vulnerable Si and registers as an audit of a body the LIE is trying to ignore. The gratitude curdles into irritation.
- In this house moods get read aloud: you seem tense, the room went cold when you said that. The LIE is already holding sociability together as effortful role work. What they hear is backstage notes in the middle of the show.
- Breakfast comes with five-year plans. The SEI can hold a future in mind for about a week. Past that, the LIE's Ni horizon feels like being billed today for a life they haven't lived yet.
- Vacations are where it shows. The SEI wants the afternoon unscheduled and pleasant. The LIE wants it converted into ground gained. By day three each is convinced the other is wasting the trip, and the car goes quiet.
