LIE and ILI: mirror
LIE and ILI run the same two functions in the opposite order. Mirror relations mean shared subject matter and reversed seriousness: ILI and LIE keep editing each other's emphasis, and the work usually improves. The compatibility is collegial — high on understanding, low on rest.
Same work, opposite order. Your base and creative functions are swapped. Same interests, reversed seriousness — each of you treats as craft what the other treats as calling.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- An investment decision takes exactly one conversation. The ILI says where things are actually heading — base Ni with no decoration on it. The LIE has the money moved there by Friday — base Te with no ceremony. Each considers the other's half the risky part.
- Ventures get pruned before they cost anything. The LIE's creative Ni sketches the trajectory. The ILI's base Ni corrects the timeline, usually downward, and the LIE adjusts without taking offense. The one bet that survives both of them generally pays.
- Bad news gets delivered plain and received the same way. Your margin is fiction, your supplier is lying, this will take three years — each hears the sentence as a favor. Neither of them has ever softened a number for the other.
- Before the pitch, the ILI's demonstrative Ti quietly tightens the LIE's arguments. Going the other way, the LIE's demonstrative Ne reopens options the ILI had discarded on scheduling grounds. Neither claims credit for the editing, and neither would tolerate it from anyone else.
- Nothing in their house was bought for show. Both of them spend against use and resale value, and the budget conversation runs about four sentences, twice a year. Gamma frugality about display is one standard neither ever had to argue for.
Where it grinds
- The LIE announces big day, team, at breakfast. That role-Fe motivational register hits the ILI's vulnerable Fe as a demand to perform enthusiasm. The ILI's flat reply hits the LIE as sabotage of morale. Both then spend the morning being privately correct.
- The ILI's running commentary on comfort grates. Observations about drafts, chairs, and skipped meals, issued from role Si, land on the LIE's vulnerable Si — a body the quarter has already spoken for. The LIE hears the catalog of symptoms as an invoice for slowing down.
- A decision they both endorse can sit unexecuted for months. Each waits for the other to push, since Se is something both receive rather than generate. Nobody says the relationship out loud either. Attachment gets inferred from the fact that they still live together.
- Each treats the other's life's work as a variable in their own model. The LIE prices the ILI's caution as an input, then overrides it. The ILI classifies the LIE's ventures as weather and survives them. Under pressure, both of them say so.
- They approached buying the house twice and postponed it twice. The LIE commits early to move fast; the ILI withholds to stay right. Each blamed the postponement on the other's tempo. The market, indifferent to both of them, rose both times.
