§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The LSI comes home rigid from enforcing standards all day, and within an hour of the SEI's easy chatter the jaw unclenches. That's the SEI's creative Fe feeding the LSI's suggestive slot, and neither of them ever names it.
- The SEI likes rules they didn't have to invent, which is mobilizing Ti at work. The LSI's filing system, the fixed grocery day, the one correct way to load the car: the SEI adopts all of it with real relief.
- They keep house without friction, because the SEI's base Si meets an LSI who holds Si in the demonstrative slot. Both notice the draft, the burnt smell, the guest's discomfort, and the repair happens before either one has to ask.
- They're two introverts, alpha and beta, who both value Fe, so evenings run quiet, then briefly funny, then quiet again. A whole Sunday can pass in one room without a single demand being made.
- The LSI brings the discipline that gives the SEI's comfort a container: a budget that exists, a vacation booked by March. Inside that frame, the SEI makes every day of it physically pleasant.
Where it grinds
- Everything the LSI's creative Se puts out lands in the SEI's ignoring slot. Ultimatums, deadlines, the raised voice: the SEI absorbs them like upholstery and changes nothing. The LSI escalates, and the SEI serves tea.
- Nobody shelters the LSI's vulnerable Ne here, since the SEI can't supply certainty about the future either. Any open question — a job change, a pending diagnosis — has the two of them circling it in silence for weeks.
- Their values pit Si against Se. The SEI's whole art is comfort in the present. The beta LSI half suspects comfort is what makes people soft, so the compliment on a perfect dinner carries a faint note of accusation.
- What the SEI's suggestive slot wants is Ne — novelty, possibility — and the LSI simply doesn't stock it. Ten years pass in the same apartment, the same resort, the same brand of everything. The SEI calls it cozy with a little less conviction each year.
- At the workbench, the admiration flows one way only: the SEI studies the LSI's systems, while the LSI takes the atmosphere for granted as background. Then the SEI falls ill, the household comfort just stops, and the LSI can't say why.
