ENTJ in socionics: LIE, LSE or SLE?

You're an ENTJ. MBTI told you who you are. It never told you who you fit with. In socionics, ENTJ splits three ways: LIE, LSE and SLE.
§1 Where ENTJs usually land
Most ENTJs land on LIE, who bets on where things will be in years. LSE fits when refining today's operation dominates, and a few land on SLE.
§2 How to tell them apart
When someone asks where this will be in three years, do you already have an answer?
If the answer is ready, and this week's work is arranged around it, that is LIE. The long view sits in a strong second slot there. If the question feels like fog and you would rather deal with what is in front of you, that is LSE, whose far horizon is the weak seat. An SLE borrows the answer: one trusted person says how far the road goes, and they act on it.
Do meals, sleep and small aches get overridden for days without you noticing?
If upkeep reads as a tax on your time, that points to LIE. You learn it mattered when your body stops the week for you. If instead you set the heat and the light and the food without being asked, and rooms are easier when you are in them, that is LSE. An SLE can rough it happily for a week and still name the best restaurant in town.
Which crew is yours: proven people and blunt talk, calm and unforced, or loyal and dramatic with real rank?
A few proven people, no ceremony, and talk about the long game is gamma, which is LIE. Calm and unforced, everyone doing solid work, no drama tolerated, is delta, which is LSE. A tight crew loyal to something larger, with dramatic humor and rank that is earned, is beta, which is SLE. The test asks about each circle separately and scores the one you recognize. These circles are the quadras: four types who value the same four elements, and find the other four like work.
§3 Why the letters don't just convert
The mechanical rule you'll see elsewhere — keep the letters, flip j/p for introverts — maps ENTJ to LIE (socionics ENTj). It assumes the two systems measure the same four dichotomies the same way. They don't quite: socionics builds its types from eight function positions, MBTI from four letter preferences, and the correspondence between them is genuinely contested — which is why every ≈MBTI equivalence on this site carries an asterisk (method §1).
The conversion test treats your MBTI as evidence rather than an answer: ENTJ opens the candidate set above, and about twenty targeted questions decide between the candidates.
Your four letters don't translate one-to-one — introverts in particular often land somewhere unexpected, and the two scoring schools don't always agree. That's why we test instead of assuming. The question people ask most is why is my socionics type different from my MBTI type, and the answer is that the two systems are counting different things.
§4 Your dual, under each candidate
Every socionics type has one dual: the type whose strong slots cover its weak ones, and the closest thing socionics has to a soulmate. Each ENTJ candidate has a different dual, so yours depends on which candidate you turn out to be.
LIE's dual is ESI, who states loyalty plainly instead of leaving it to be inferred: LIE and ESI.
LSE's dual is EII, who says out loud what the fixed shelf and the paid bills leave unsaid: LSE and EII.
SLE's dual is IEI, the one person who will say how far this road actually goes: SLE and IEI.
§5 Questions people ask
What is the ENTJ socionics type?
There is no single ENTJ socionics type. Four letters do not carry enough information to fix one, so the conversion test opens with a candidate set: 60% LIE, 25% LSE, 15% SLE. Those are the weights the scoring starts from, not a count of ENTJs in the world. Twenty targeted questions move them. Each candidate has a page: LIE, LSE, SLE.
Is ENTJ LIE or LSE in socionics?
Most often LIE. Of the three ENTJ candidates in socionics, LIE and LSE lead with the same element and differ in what sits beside it: LIE runs on the long view, LSE on the operation in front of it. The tell is what you do with something that works. Refine it and keep it running, and you are reading LSE. Reposition it, trading today's polish for where it needs to be in three years, and you are reading LIE.
Why is my socionics type different from my MBTI type?
MBTI sorts you on four letter preferences. A socionics type is eight positions, each holding one element in a fixed seat. The mechanical rule keeps the letters and flips j/p for introverts, which is a rule of thumb rather than a conversion. The rule puts ENTJ on LIE, and every ≈MBTI equivalence here carries an asterisk. The LSE and SLE candidates show that extraverts shift too. The test still asks.
Who is the ENTJ's dual in socionics?
Duality is the compatibility claim socionics is best known for: your dual is strong exactly where you are weak, and the help arrives without a performance. An LIE's dual is ESI. An LSE's dual is EII. An SLE's dual is IEI. Which one is yours depends on the candidate you land on, which is why the candidate set comes first and the conversion questions come next.
