INTP in socionics: LII, ILI or ILE?
Who are you easy with?
You're an INTP. MBTI told you who you are. It never told you who you fit with. In socionics the four letters don't land on one type. Three are in play: LII first by weight, ILI close behind, and ILE a smaller share. Each is easiest with a different person, which is the one thing the INTP letters can't tell you.
§1 Where INTPs usually land
Most INTPs land on LII, the system-building analyst, or ILI, the skeptical forecaster. Some land on ILE when restless idea-generation is the dominant trait.
§2 How to tell them apart
Does a room where people openly show what they feel wake you up, or wear you out?
Wakes you up: you go flat without that current nearby, and you are grateful to whoever starts it. That points to LII, and to ILE. Both borrow their mood from the company. Wears you out: being expected to look delighted on cue sends you toward the door. That points to ILI. Feeling in company is where the top two candidates are opposite.
When a decisive person cuts in and says it is time to act, does that land as relief or as pressure?
Relief, and you want more of it: that is ILI. Reading where things are heading does not move anything on its own, and one forceful person nearby turns the reading into events. Pressure, and it stays with you for days: that is LII. Being hurried or out-volumed does not change your mind, it just takes you out of the room. An ILE can do the forceful thing in short bursts, and has generally moved on by the time it needs following through.
In a room where you know one person, do you end up in conversation with several strangers?
If that happens without your planning it, look at ILE. It is the extraverted candidate and the smallest share of the INTP set. If one long conversation leaves you better off than a dozen short ones, you are in LII or ILI territory. The second tell is what you do with options. An ILE opens more of them for the pleasure of it. An ILI supplies the same options with an objection attached to each.
§3 Why the letters don't just convert
The mechanical rule you'll see elsewhere — keep the letters, flip j/p for introverts — maps INTP to LII (socionics INTj). It assumes the two systems measure the same four dichotomies the same way. They don't quite: socionics builds its types from eight function positions, MBTI from four letter preferences, and the correspondence between them is genuinely contested — which is why every ≈MBTI equivalence on this site carries an asterisk (method §1).
The conversion test treats your MBTI as evidence rather than an answer: INTP opens the candidate set above, and about twenty targeted questions decide between the candidates.
Your four letters don't translate one-to-one — introverts in particular often land somewhere unexpected, and the two scoring schools don't always agree. That's why we test instead of assuming. The question people ask most is why is my socionics type different from my MBTI type, and the answer is that the two systems are counting different things.
§4 Your dual, under each candidate
The easiest of the sixteen relations socionics names is duality: two people whose strong functions sit exactly where the other is weak. It is the closest thing socionics has to a soulmate, and each of your three candidates has a different one.
LII's dual is ESE. An ESE starts the mood an LII cannot start alone, and keeps the ordinary day comfortable: LII and ESE.
ILI's dual is SEE. An SEE turns an ILI's reading of where things are going into things that get done: ILI and SEE.
ILE's dual is SEI. An SEI looks after the food, the room and the hour that an ILE forgets to notice: ILE and SEI.

What is the INTP socionics type?
INTP does not resolve to a single socionics type. It opens a candidate set instead of a single answer. LII holds just under half the starting weight, ILI two in five, and ILE the rest. Two of the three are introverts and one is not, and each needs a different thing supplied: warmth for LII, a push for ILI, ordinary comfort for ILE. That difference is what socionics turns into compatibility, and the test settles which one is yours.
Is INTP LII or ILI in socionics?
An INTP starts weighted toward LII, with ILI close behind, and the test is what settles it. One clear tell is feeling in company. An LII goes flat without somebody warm nearby and is glad when a lively room carries them along. An ILI finds the same room a demand to perform, and would rather be handed one decisive person who makes things happen. Pressure, foresight and structure split the two as well.
Why is my socionics type different from my MBTI type?
Socionics and MBTI are built from different parts. Socionics sorts eight function positions into a fixed order; MBTI records four letter preferences. Who is the INTP's dual in socionics?
Duality is the relation socionics rates easiest: your weak functions are the other person's strong ones, and neither of you has to explain the gap.
