SLI and LSE: mirror
SLI and LSE run the same two functions in the opposite order. Mirror relations mean shared subject matter and reversed seriousness: LSE and SLI keep editing each other's emphasis, and the work usually improves. The compatibility is collegial — high on understanding, low on rest.
Same work, opposite order. Your base and creative functions are swapped. Same interests, reversed seriousness — each of you treats as craft what the other treats as calling.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The garage runs like a small firm. The LSE organizes the visible process from base Te — the schedules, the suppliers. The SLI, from base Si, removes frictions nobody else had even registered. Neither remembers deciding who does which, and neither needs to.
- When one of them gets sick, the response is thermometers rather than speeches. One tracks the fever curve and adjusts the room. The other reorganizes the week so nothing depends on the patient. Recovery proceeds under two kinds of competence and zero drama.
- A badly hung door offends both of them, for reasons that agree. The LSE objects on Te grounds — it fails. The SLI objects on Si grounds — it grates. Within the hour the door is rehung and the landlord invoiced.
- The SLI's demonstrative Ti quietly rationalizes the LSE's procedures, trimming two steps without ever proposing the change formally. The LSE's demonstrative Se, in turn, pushes through the vendor, the warranty desk, and the line — confrontations the SLI would have routed around.
- Every purchase clears the same shared test: price per year of use. That covers the good boots, the serious drill, and the unfashionable car that runs forever. Neither has ever had to defend the standard to the other, which both find restful.
Where it grinds
- The LSE comes home and delivers a hearty great job, everyone. That role-Fe cheer lands on the SLI's vulnerable Fe, since feeling on cue is the one demand the SLI can't meet. The non-response then reads to the LSE as sullenness toward a perfectly good evening.
- We'll see how it goes is not an answer the LSE can file anywhere. The SLI's role-Ni shrug at the long-range question lands on the LSE's vulnerable Ni, which needs the future scheduled. The LSE asks for a date, and the SLI declines to invent one.
- One of them accelerates while the other conserves. The LSE keeps adding clients and earlier starts; the SLI defends a sustainable pace as a matter of craft. The LSE reads that pace as underperformance. The SLI reads the acceleration as self-harm on a schedule. Neither audit ever gets presented.
- Their evenings are efficient, well maintained, and identical. Neither says what the other means to them — both are takers of Fi, not givers. Neither brings home the new thing. The household runs excellently, and quietly starves for novelty.
- Even rest turns into a standards dispute. The LSE schedules leisure as a line item — comfort under management. The SLI refuses scheduled leisure on principle, because comfort is supposed to be the thing itself. Each finds the other's Sunday slightly unbearable.
