SLI and LSI: quasi-identity
SLI and LSI share topics and cannot share methods. Quasi-identity keeps the vocabulary familiar and the meanings shifted, so work handed between LSI and SLI has to be redone rather than continued. The compatibility is conversational; it does not survive a deadline.
Looks like you. Isn't. Same topics, methods that don't mix. Everything about them is familiar, and none of it is usable.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- Their workshop practically runs itself. Tools get respected, materials get measured, and neither has ever had to explain why the good chisel isn't for opening paint cans. Two ST pragmatists don't need the shop rules posted.
- Sitting silent in a car suits them both. Three hundred miles can pass on road noise alone, broken by one remark about the engine. Both count that as good company.
- Their renovations actually get finished. The LSI plans the sequence and holds to it. The SLI's creative Te finds the faster joint and the cheaper fitting inside each step. The bathroom is done before the relatives have even started theirs.
- A smooth talker gets nowhere with either of them. A contractor who explains things a little too fluently draws the same narrowed eyes from both. The quote gets checked twice, on two different principles.
- They honor physical competence in both directions. Thanks to the LSI's exact welds and the SLI's demonstrative Ti grasp of the whole schematic, each has watched the other do something hard, correctly, with no audience present.
Where it grinds
- Procedure versus shortcut is their standing war. The SLI proves the shortcut takes half the time — creative Te, receipts in hand. The LSI's ignoring Te concedes the arithmetic and follows regulation anyway. Each considers the matter settled for good, and each is wrong.
- When the LSI applies pressure, the SLI's ignoring Se declines the contest and just does the thing their own way on Tuesday. There's no argument to win. That's the part that enrages the LSI.
- The holidays turn grim. The LSI's suggestive Fe waits for a warmth someone else has to start. The SLI's vulnerable Fe can't produce feeling on cue. So two people sit near a decorated tree, each waiting for an atmosphere neither can supply.
- Sometimes the SLI floats an odd new idea, hoping for gentle interest back. The LSI's vulnerable Ne receives it as noise, or as a threat. The idea doesn't get floated again, and the shared room gets a little smaller.
- They keep two very different calendars. The LSI's schedule is law by Sunday night. The SLI drifts, finishing the right tasks in an order nobody predicted. It turns out being punctual and being unscheduled are two virtues that can't share a house.
