EIE and IEI: mirror
EIE and IEI run the same two functions in the opposite order. Mirror relations mean shared subject matter and reversed seriousness: IEI and EIE keep editing each other's emphasis, and the work usually improves. The compatibility is collegial — high on understanding, low on rest.
Same work, opposite order. Your base and creative functions are swapped. Same interests, reversed seriousness — each of you treats as craft what the other treats as calling.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The speech gets its depth from the person sitting beside the speaker. The IEI's base Ni supplies the images and the sense of where events are heading. The EIE's base Fe puts them on stage for an audience. Each thinks the other's half is the hard part.
- Nothing that happens at dinner needs explaining afterward. Both of them read the pause, the seating, the toast that ran long. The ride home takes one confirming sentence apiece. Then they settle in and analyze everyone else.
- Emotional weather doesn't scare either of them. A funeral, a breakup in the friend group, a cause worth grieving over — both keep functioning where other people flee. The EIE conducts the feeling. The IEI absorbs it and handles the timing.
- Neither one can scandalize the other. Gallows humor, ambition, frank talk about who really holds power in the family — because they share beta values, the darkest observation gets a laugh instead of a lecture.
- The EIE's demonstrative Ne finds the exit the IEI's vision left out, casually naming three other ways the story could go. In return, the IEI's demonstrative Fi knows which allies are real, and steers the EIE away from the flatterers.
Where it grinds
- The EIE launches productivity campaigns with full theatrics, announcing from role Te that this household will now be effective. It lands on the IEI's vulnerable Te as an audit with stage lighting. The IEI performs one visible day of effort, then resumes the previous century.
- The IEI's fussing about rest reads as sabotage. Reminders to eat and sleep, offered from role Si, land on the EIE's vulnerable Si — a body being overridden for the mission on purpose. The EIE hears even the kettle as an argument against the cause.
- The trip gets narrated but never booked. Both are waiting for a decisive hand, since Se is something each takes in rather than supplies. So the bills, the tickets, and the dripping faucet pile up under commentary that keeps getting better.
- For one of them emotion is a public instrument; for the other it's private weather. The EIE finds the IEI's Fe undersized — feeling kept at candle scale. The IEI finds the EIE's Ni instrumental — prophecy trimmed to fit tonight's speech. Both critiques get filed. Neither is ever withdrawn.
- A small grievance can become an opera by midnight. Both of them amplify feeling for a living, and neither can play the dry one who ends the scene. The original subject — a parking ticket — is unrecoverable by the second act.
