EIE and LSE: super-ego
EIE and LSE each do easily what the other performs under pressure. Super-ego relations look complementary from across a room and feel like being graded up close, which is why LSE and EIE usually stay polite and stay apart. The compatibility improves with distance, which is rarely the direction people want.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- The LSE runs the company picnic as logistics with smiling attached — role Fe at work. Then an EIE turns the same crowd into a single feeling inside ten minutes, and the LSE admits there's a technology here they don't have.
- Cornered, the EIE quotes throughput and deadlines — effortful role Te. An LSE who just makes the operation run, no speeches involved, is the kind of person the EIE cites in speeches.
- A school fundraiser shows them at full power: the EIE supplies the cause and the tears, the LSE supplies the tables, the permits, and the float. The take doubles. They never once agree on why it worked.
- Nobody stalls in this pair. When the basement floods at midnight, both are on the stairs with a plan inside ninety seconds. The argument about whose plan can wait until the water's out.
- In deadline weeks the EIE forgets meals until their hands shake. An LSE colleague who leaves a sandwich without a word and adjusts the schedule has done more for them than any admirer that month. The colleague also knows better than to mention it.
Where it grinds
- Up close, the LSE's care picks up commentary: 'you'd feel better if you slept and ate like an adult'. To the EIE's vulnerable Si, that's an audit of the one department they've deliberately shut down.
- The EIE reads omens professionally: where this is all heading, what it will have meant. The LSE's vulnerable Ni takes fog badly. After ten minutes of destiny talk, the LSE is reorganizing the garage just to feel real again.
- The household accounts sour first. The LSE prices the EIE's grand gestures per unit — 'the candles cost what?' — and the EIE starts performing efficiency at home, which is the most expensive way to have it.
- Escalation is how the EIE makes things matter. The LSE reads escalation as malfunction. The more the EIE dramatizes the anniversary, the more the LSE answers with arrangements — which reads as coldness, which calls for more drama.
- Vacations expose the split. The EIE wants the trip to be a story with a turning point. The LSE wants it well-run and restful. One comes home transformed, the other rested, and both are mildly insulted.
