EII and IEI: quasi-identity
EII and IEI share topics and cannot share methods. Quasi-identity keeps the vocabulary familiar and the meanings shifted, so work handed between IEI and EII has to be redone rather than continued. The compatibility is conversational; it does not survive a deadline.

§2 In practice
Where it clicks
- Nobody pressures anybody here. The IEI waits, the EII leaves doors open, and a decision can breathe for a week without anyone calling the delay a failure. For these two, that counts as rest.
- Subtext gets read fluently in both directions. A slight drop in tone at breakfast is caught, read correctly, and quietly accommodated by lunch. Not one clarifying question gets asked along the way.
- When they talk about people, the conversation goes deep and stays unhurried. The IEI supplies where the person is probably headed. The EII's base Fi supplies what that person could still become. Two hours pass and feel like twenty minutes.
- Each tolerates the other's silences without auditing them. The IEI's withdrawals into imagery and the EII's private moral weighing both get left alone — a courtesy neither receives from busier types.
- This house handles grief well. The IEI colors the mood without forcing it — creative Fe at low volume — while the EII sits with the mourner one on one. Nobody gets told to cheer up, and nobody gets rushed.
Where it grinds
- It takes them ninety minutes to pick a restaurant. Neither claims the decision, so the shape of the evening gets negotiated through hints each reads perfectly and neither acts on. In the end, hunger casts the deciding vote.
- The bills sit unopened. The EII's suggestive Te keeps hoping some practical person will show up and manage the facts. The IEI's vulnerable Te makes them the least qualified candidate in the household. The late fee becomes a recurring line item.
- The IEI waits for a decisive push — suggestive Se is what they run best on. The EII's vulnerable Se means that push is the one thing this particular partner will never supply. So they both drift, courteously.
- They split over endings. The IEI announces how the story ends. The EII's demonstrative Ni sees the same shape but declines the fatalism, offering through creative Ne that people still change. The IEI's ignoring Ne files that offer under wishful thinking.
- When the IEI stages an atmosphere to move the EII, the EII's ignoring Fe recognizes the staging as staging and goes politely flat. The move that works on everyone else fails only at home, and that stings.
